The cleanup continues. Another dry day Thursday with highs about 63. Dave finished pulling taps thursday in the Home Woods. 2 spiles broke off but I was able to attach a vise grip to the stem and pull them out. I was unable to get out the two drill bits that broke off in the tree when Mike was showing his fatherinlaw how to tap. The metal was brittle. Jim counted the cutoff spiles and we have 1,072. Brent came after work and we pulled the vacuum wagon up from the homewoods. We also brought home the last tank at Harmons plus all loose items. We pumped out 150 gallons of sap and rolled the tank up the hill and onto the trailer.
Today Jim and I pressure washed all of the tanks, hoses and exchanger and put them away. The weather was dry, sunny and windy so it was a perfect day for getting all of the items cleaned. Cleanup was easier since the 1500 gallons tanks did not have much debris or film due to the cooling effect of the underground hoses. It only took about 3 hours to get everything done today. Highs were a little cooler in the upper 50’s with a strong North wind. On the way home I pumped up the low tire on the vacuum spreader and the ATV. I also walked up to the edge of the woods and shut off all valves except the west black line. When our crew detaps tomorrow they will go from section to section which is determined by the black drain lines since there are valves to turn them off or on.
